Enable OEM Unlocking on any Android Device
If you have ever looked into unlocking your bootloader, rooting, or flashing custom ROMs, you have probably seen people yell “ENABLE OEM UNLOCKING FIRST” in all caps. And yeah, they are not being dramatic 😅

Step-by-step: How I enable OEM Unlocking
1. Open Settings on your Android device
I start simple. Unlock the phone and open Settings .

2. Go to Developer options
Scroll down and tap Developer options .
If you do not see Developer options at all, it means they are not enabled yet.
NOTEDeveloper options only appear after tapping Build number seven times inside About phone . If you already enabled USB Debugging before, you are good.
3. Scroll until you find OEM Unlocking
Inside Developer options, scroll slowly. Do not rush, this menu is long and messy.
Look for OEM unlocking .
It usually says something like “Allow the bootloader to be unlocked”.
4. Read the warning carefully (seriously)
Tap the OEM unlocking toggle.
Android will immediately throw a warning popup. This is not just for show.
5. Confirm and enable OEM Unlocking
If you understand what it does and you actually need it, confirm the prompt.
The toggle should now stay ON .
That’s it. OEM Unlocking is enabled.
No reboot required, no cable needed, no fastboot yet.
Important things I always keep in mind
This setting looks harmless, but it has real consequences later.
- Enabling OEM Unlocking alone does NOT unlock your bootloader
- Bootloader unlocking usually wipes all data when you do it
- Some brands disable this option completely (looking at you, carriers 👀)
TIPIf OEM Unlocking is greyed out, connect your phone to the internet, add a Google account, and wait 24 to 72 hours. Some devices enforce a cooldown period.

- If I am done experimenting, I leave it off or do not touch it at all
